Creative ideas or skills need to be judged in an appropriate way. For an artist it is important to secure his/her artwork from being stolen or at least prevent unauthorized access by someone who does not own the creation. Similarly, music licensing holds a special place in the life of a music composer who considers music as a source of earning. Today, the challenging scenario is urging music composers and artists to license their work; so that they can earn from what they create.

Now, a composer, a lyricist or a singer can create a score for the production of a film, a commercial, radio episodes, video games and more. Some of them can even sync a pre-existing work for an audio-visual production. The composers not only receive a one-time payment for use of their creation but also get an opportunity to earn more from performance royalties.

A lot of artists are in fact earning additional income by means of their works. The diverse range of money earning sources also include videogames, toys, ringtones, Broadway, internet, samples, mashups, slot machines, greeting cards, karaoke, television series, films, radio, commercials, downloads and more. Anyone who holds rights is given the remuneration.

However, the fees tend to vary from person to person and to some extent the charges can also be negotiated realistically. Thus the importance of music licensing to music composers is clearly evident from the way music licensing is utilized in the industry.

Today, anyone who is accused of stealing music or using a composition without seeking legal permission from the owner is directly taken to court for such unlawful intentions or offence. Suppose the producer of a film intends to use a particular composition in a motion picture or clips of the movie it is obvious of him to seek the license from the copyright holder who generally tends to be the music publisher. The licensing fees is then, evenly distributed amongst parties who have right on the musical piece.

Sometimes the film producer can use the song as part of a trailer campaign or preview teaser; he may not even use it in the movie. The copyright fees for using a musical content are mostly negotiable as per the quote of the same.  Video games are also a potential source of earning for music composers. Most of the times the master recording and the compositions are licensed on one-time-buy-out basis; thus helping the buyer use the musical composition for as many number of times as he may want.
